Governing Council

In accordance with its Statute, the Institute has a Governing Council consisting of a representative designated by the Government of Japan and eight representatives nominated by other members and associate members of ESCAP elected by the Commission.

The Commission, at its seventy-five session , elected the following countries as members of the Governing Council for the period from 2019 to 2022: Bangladesh; China; India; Mongolia; Pakistan; Republic of Korea; Russian Federation; and Thailand.

The Fifteenth Session of SIAP Governing Council
[Chiba, Japan | 9 - 10 December 2019]

Around fifty chief statisticians and their representatives from countries and international organizations participated in two managerial meetings Governing Council of UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific, and Network of Statistical Training Institutions in Chiba, Japan on 9th and 10th December 2019.
The Council acknowledged the significant progress made by the Institute in the year 2019. The council reviewed the recommendations contained in the Independent evaluation report carried out for the period 2015-2019 of its activities. It broadly accepted its recommendations.
They discussed the future of statistical training in the region in the context of monitoring Sustainable Development Goals delivered by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific and its collaborating national statistical training institutes in the region. They endorsed the strategic plan of the Institute for the next five years. Work Programme and Financial plan of the Institute for the year 2020 was also approved by the Council.

The Fourteenth session of SIAP Governing Council

[Incheon, Republic of Korea | 26 to 27 November 2018]

The fourteenth session of its Governing Council was held from 26 to 27 November in Incheon, Republic of Korea. Six members of the Governing Council: China, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Russian Federation and eight observers participated in the session. During the session the Governing Council reviewed activities and status in 2018, work programme, implementation plan and financial plan for 2019, and programme of work to formulate the 2020—2024 strategic plan of SIAP.
