To strengthen the capacity of national statistical systems to produce data, apply statistical methods to produce official statistics and indicators and interpret and use these for monitoring progress in achieving SDGs.
The causes and consequences of informal employment and employment in informal sector and their impact on achieving sustainable development continues to gain attention in national development agendas. The evidence in developing and emerging economies shows that on average more than half of the employment in non-agricultural sectors are informal and this rate can reach as high as 80% in some regions. Therefore, every national policy targeting poverty, social protection, or decent work needs to recognise the role of the informal economy in national development.
This training course is aimed at strengthening the communication and advocacy capacities of statistical offices and statistical units of agricultural ministries to promote use of agricultural data in policy monitoring and evaluation. Specifically, the training course will equip participants with knowledge of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to agriculture, associated indicators and tools to promote their importance in national development policy. Participants are expected to lead advocacy events in their respective countries that puts investment in agriculture statistics as crucial in monitoring SDGs.
The workshop will bring the heads and senior managers of the national statistical offices (NSOs) of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan together to exchange experiences and lessons from national SDG data readiness assessments, mappings of national indicators to the global framework, and the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of National Strategies for the Developments of Statistics (NSDSs).
To strengthen the capacity of government statisticians to produce SDG indicators and relevant social and economic statistics that facilitate the analysis of disparities and monitoring of impacts of inclusive development policies.
The course is designed to enhance the capacity of participating countries to: Rationalize data sources for economic statistics and understand the interlinkages between the various data collections and compilations; Plan for effective economic census/enterprise survey questionnaires and tabulation plans; Plan for the use of economic census results for other economic data collections and in the compilation of national accounts.
To increase ability of NSS to access and use ICT for production and dissemination of minimum set of agricultural and rural statistics; To improve capacity of countries to adopt cost-effective and reliable methods for producing a minimum set of agricultural and rural statistics.
