Introduction to the System of National Accounts (2008 SNA) - An e-Learning Course ESCAP-SIAP

The Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP-SIAP), in collaboration with the Tokushima University, conducted a the Fourth Basic-Level e-Learning Course on the System of National Accounts is planned to be conducted during 21 October – 20 December 2013. This was an Internet-based guided learning course, conducted utilizing the distance training system developed by Tokushima University, a national university in Japan.
The main objective of the course was to strengthen the capacity of national statistical offices in compilation of national accounts. The course provided an overview of the 2008 SNA as a framework for macroeconomic statistics. It was designed for junior-level government statisticians engaged in national accounts compilation and use of economic statistics or performing tasks relating to compilation of national accounts. It was also expected to benefit other officials uninitiated in the SNA. Those with long experiences in compiling national accounts also found the course useful for updating their knowledge on the 2008 SNA.
The participants of the course were selected from nominations received from the ESCAP 21 different member states. The course was offered to a limited number of officials, of which only 27 participants actually took the course and are expected to complete it successfully.
