Sub regional technical training on work statistics and labour migration statistics for the Pacific Islands Countries(PICs)

The Sub regional technical training on work statistics (19th ICLS Resolution) and labour migration statistics for the Pacific Islands Countries (PICs), organized by ILO and the ESCAP Pacific Office in partnership with Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), University of the South Pacific (UPS) and Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), was conducted from 28 July to 1 August 2014, Nadi, Fiji. The 20 participants were from 9 Pacific Island Countries: Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The training workshop aims to (i) increase the technical knowledge in the PICs on the recent standards of labour statistics from the 19th ICLS Resolution, (ii) discuss and identify better strategies and mechanisms for improving data collection on labour statistics and implementing the new resolution in the PICs, (iii) Provide a briefing on ongoing process on labour migration measurement and discuss pilot process in PICs, and (iv) discuss and advise possible support on the above from international partners.
