The Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), in collaboration with Philippine Statistcal Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) and Timor-Leste General Directorate of Statistics (GDS), will conduct the Country Course on Basic Data Analysis and Statistical Report Writing for the Timor-Leste General Directorates of Statistics, from 28 July to 8 August 2014, Dili, Timor-Leste. This course is the second country course SIAP and GDS agreed on a statistical training programme for 2014, following the Country Course on Basic Statistics and Basic MS Excel completed in May 2014.

The objective of the course is to enhance the capacity of GDS staff to produce simple statistical analysis of survey or census results. The training specifically aims to (i) build on the outcomes of and/or skills improvement of concerned GDS staff as a result of the first country course, (ii) capacitate GDS staff to more ably understand outputs of major statistical activities towards serving policymakers and/or data users more efficiently, (iii) enhance writing skills of GDS staff that enable translation of technical statistical reports for use by policymakers and the general public towards more effective communication and increased relevance, and (iv) influence statistical appreciation of other players in the national statistical systems in the production and/or use of basic statistical reports.

The training will target 20-25 participants including participants from the first country course, senior officials from GDS and participants from other ministries in the national statistical systems.
