The World Statistics Day Forum 2015 was held at the United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan on 4 December 2015. In line with the June 2015 United Nations General Assembly resolution officially designating 20 October 2015 as the second World Statistics Day, the forum was organized to disseminate the importance of statistics and consider ideal approaches for the statistical community under the theme of “Statistics for all, with all” by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Government of Japan, in cooperation with SIAP, supported by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC).
Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director of United Nations Statistics Division, delivered a key note speech on ”Opportunities and challenges for the international statistical community” and emphasized that community of official Statisticians should need to play a leading role to develop solid and rigorous measurement systems for the 2030 development agenda. Ms. Margarita Guerrero, Director of SIAP, participated in a panel discussion: “Aiming for Statistics for all, with all – From international and domestic perspectives –“. She made a presentation on “Statistical training for development: Doing it for 45 years. Now what?” and emphasized that the mission result of SIAP should be the enhanced capability of National Statistical Systems (NSSs) to provide timely and quality official statistics in support of evidence-based decision making for sustainable and inclusive development.
