Eleven government officials of national statistical offices and national agencies engaged in ICT related works for official statistics from Angola, Kosovo, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Samoa, Tajikistan and Timor-Leste completed the Group Training Programme on Applying ICT Innovations for Modernizing Official Statistical Systems, Chiba, Japan, 23 January – 3 March 2017.
The six-week residential course enhanced the knowledge and skills of participants to apply statistical standards and frameworks and ICT innovations for modernizing collection, processing, presentation and dissemination of data to meet data requirements for monitoring SDG indicators. Participants applied the acquired knowledge and skills on designing, managing and implementing a sample survey project using CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing) data collection methods and presented their results at the end of the training course.
At the closing ceremony of the course on 3 March 2017, Mr. Ashish Kumar, Director of SIAP and Mr. Takeo Ishikawa, Director of Industrial Development and Public Policy Division, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tokyo International Center delivered congratulatory messages. Mr. Takayuki Sasajima, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications also gave congratulatory messages.
The Director’s Prize winner of the course is Ms. Najjah binti Tohar from the Department of Statistics, Malaysia.
The course was conducted by SIAP, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of the government of Japan.
