Topic: Positioning statistics as a development imperative: Opportunities in the context of formulating the post-2015 development agenda

21 - 22 November 2013, Chiba, Japan

The annual management seminar series aims to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of the heads of national statistical offices (NSOs) by providing a forum to discuss, to exchange views and to share experiences among heads of NSOs. The current seminar conveys the urgent message that leadership matters in positioning statistics as a development imperative in the context of the on-going processes on formulating the post-2015 development agenda. The seminar aims to accelerate preparedness of heads of national statistical offices to lead official statistical systems into the post-2015 era.

‐target-­‐indicator framework for measuring, monitoring, and reporting of progress in the eradication of extreme poverty through sustainable development 
- Measurement theme of integration of economic, social and environmental aspects of a post-­‐2015 development agenda 
- Call for a data revolution to improve the quality of statistics and information available to citizens 
- Establishing a Global Partnership on Development Data to develop a global strategy to fill critical gaps, expand data accessibility and ensure that a baseline of post-­‐2015 targets is in place by January 2016 - Advocacy to include effective official statistical system as a goal in its own right
