
Management seminar
This seminar is organized in collaboration with other Statistical Organizations. The aim of the seminar is to stimulate discussions and debate and share good practices on issues and challenges in leading and managing national statistical organizations (NSOs).
All the events will be organised in Chiba, Japan and online mode between 12 and 15 December 2022. The Council, in the session, will consider several issues, including the report of the Director on its achievements in 2022 and the proposed work plan for 2023. For the Network, the subgroup on gender statistics will report their activities and the Network will discuss further development of training on environment statistics.
The Management Seminar aims to strengthen the leadership and management abilities of the heads of national statistical offices by providing a forum to discuss, exchange views and share experiences. The theme of this year’s seminar is "Transforming Institutions is Transforming People". The seminar will identify good practices of leadership and future steps that should be taken to lead agile, resilient and responsible human resources management.

The Management Seminar aims to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of the heads of national statistical offices (NSOs) by providing a forum to discuss, exchange views and share experiences. The theme of this year’s seminar is "Future of Economic Statistics". The seminar will draw on the experience of participants in identifying present level of production and use of official economic statistics in countries in the region and further expectation in terms of production of new economic and related indicators.
Purpose of the seminar is to identify specific actions required by the governments in the region and by international organizations to empower and strengthen National Statistical Systems for developing capability to track progress toward SDGs by compilation and coordination of SDG global, regional and national indicators.
The Twelfth Management Seminar for the Heads of National Statistical Offices in Asia and the Pacific was held on 2 & 3 December 2015 at the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, Japan, which was organized by the Statistical Institute for Asia and Pacific (SIAP) and Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of the Government of Japan.
The annual management seminar series aims to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of the heads of national statistical offices (NSOs) by providing a forum to discuss, to exchange views and to share experiences among heads of NSOs. The current seminar conveys the urgent message that leadership matters in positioning statistics as a development imperative in the context of the on-going processes on formulating the post-2015 development agenda.
- To bring together the heads of NSOs in the ESCAP region to review global and regional initiatives and share experiences in responding to the needs for modernization of statistical information systems;
- To enhance skills and knowledge of participants regarding the relevant concepts and tools;
- To determine common challenges and discuss and agree on regional approaches required to address the challenges.
- To strengthen capability in the area of leadership and management in statistics with a view to enhancing statistical capacities in support of inclusive and sustainable development.
- To provide an opportunity to learn experiences and analyze major success and challenges in regard to developing and maintaining professional capability of staff of national statistics offices.
