The Twelfth Management Seminar for the Heads of National Statistical Offices in Asia and the Pacific was held on 2 & 3 December 2015 at the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, Japan, which was organized by the Statistical Institute for Asia and Pacific (SIAP) and Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of the Government of Japan. 

The training course is geared towards introducing participants to the new NSDS guidelines developed by PARIS21 specifically on the design and implementation processes, and links to existing norms, tools and good practices. It will likewise provide an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals and the survey planning and costing tool designed to aid in financing the implementation of the NSDS. The training aims to strengthen the capacity senior managers of national statistical offices responsible for strategic planning.

The Second Regional Training Course on Sampling Methods for Producing Core Data Items for Agricultural and Rural Statistics will be held from 9 to 20 November 2015 in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia. The regional training course is part of the training programme of the Asia-Pacific Regional Action Plan to Implement the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (RAP) and will be conducted in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and BPS-Statistics Indonesia of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Regional Workshop on Measuring the Informal Sector and Non-observed Economy will be held by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), from 4 to 7 October 2015 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Regional Workshop on Improving Use of Administrative Data in Production of Official Statistics: Role of Statistical Register Systems, Face-to-Face Module will be held by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), from 12 to 16 September 2015 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

(a) Apply SNA 2008 concepts and definitions in the compilation of national accounts statistics and
(b) Expand and increase exhaustiveness in the coverage of GDP estimates in national accounts statistics. 

The Regional Workshop on Improving Use of Administrative Data in Production of Official Statistics: Role of Statistical Register Systems, Face-to-Face Module will be held by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), from 12 to 16 September 2015 in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Regional Workshop on Statistical Literacy: Increasing Effective Use of Agricultural and Rural Statistics will be held by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), from 13 to 17 July 2015 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with RAP implementing partners and Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) of the Government of the Republic of Korea. 

The Regional Course on Statistics on Informality: Informal economy, work and employment will be conducted from 6 to 10 July 2015 in Chiba, Japan. The course is organized by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United States Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the Statistics Division of ESCAP, International Labour Organization (ILO); Women in Inforrmal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO); and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Government of Japan (MIC).

• Increasing understanding of the communication issues between the data producer and user that have an impact on the effective use of data for policy research and analysis and policy formulation and monitoring;
• Providing guidance in developing a business case and communication and advocacy strategy for promoting awareness of the role of agricultural and rural statistics for policy making and evaluation and increasing appreciation by policy makers and decision makers in government of the importance of allocating resources for quality agricultural and rural statistics; and

The Regional Course on Statistical Business Registers: Making a Business Case for an Operational Statistical Business Register will be conducted from 26 to 30 January 2015 in Perak, Malaysia. The course is organized by the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Statistics Division of ESCAP.
